Gator Run Friday Focus - May 8, 2015

There is a video circulating the internet right now by John Oliver, who has been a contributor to The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.  In this video John skewers standardized testing and the testing company Pearson in particular.  There is some questionable language that is bleeped out but I really think that you will love the relevance to our own frustrations.  Check it out when you get the chance - Watch John Oliver Explore Insanity of Standardized Testing

Thanks to Shari Heyman for sharing this article with me - What It Means to Be a Teacher  Very apropos for Teacher Appreciation Week.

Next Week at a Glance:
  • Author Dave Barry will be here on Monday to speak to our 4th and 5th graders.
  • There is a NESS meeting on Monday at 2:15 in Mrs. Heyman's classroom.
  • Team Leader day is next Tuesday.  I will be at another school that day for a walkthrough visit so Ms. Felton will lead the meeting.
  • 5th Grade is heading to Orlando on Wednesday and Thursday.  This should be an awesome trip!
  • Team Collaboration is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
Quote of the Week - "One of the most profoundly human things you can do is talk to someone instead of about them."  Not sure who said this but it is definitely something to think about.
